Did Redsfest change their game plan?
At the start of the offseason Cincinnati Reds General Manager Walt Jocketty said that they would not be looking at signing free agents this offseason and instead would be looking at trades. After Redsfest though they are now rumored to be looking at free agents for both the outfield and infield. Does this mean no one was interested in trading with the Reds or does it mean the Reds realized they would not get what they wanted without offering some contracts to free agents? I am not sure what woke the front office up but it is nice to see they are looking for players now. I have to be honest, I was starting to get a little scared with no news at all.
The free agents that the Reds are looking into are not ones that will break the bank but ones that will help platoon or even back up young players like Zack Cozart and Yonder Alonso. There might still be trades that happen for the Reds but I really did not think they would be looking at any free agents since Jocketty said so at the beginning of the offseason.
