Travis Wood rumors

Travis Wood is now the new Cincinnati Reds player in trade rumors. It is been reported that the Reds are trying to trade him and two more prospects for left-handed RP Sean Marshall from Chicago Cubs.

This is another trade that at first looks very one-sided but maybe after a few days it will look better. Of course it really depends on who else the Reds send to the Cubs. I am not a big fan of trades between two division rivals but maybe this is the only deal Reds General Manager Walt Jocketty can find right now to help his team.

This deal does not make a lot of sense right now because Travis Wood is under contract with the Reds for a few seasons and Sean Marshall would be a free agent after the 2012 season. Some people say the Reds just want to have him so then they can get the draft picks from when he becomes a free agent and signs with another team next offseason. If that is the case, I really am not a fan of this move at all. I really don’t think that is the case though. Having another lefty late inning pitcher is always good and people are saying he is one of the best late inning pitchers in the National League right now.
