LHP Tony Cingrani

Baseball America’s 2011 Pioneer League Top 20 Prospects had 4 Cincinnati Reds prospects in it. Tony Cingrani, Ryan Wright, Sean Buckley and Kyle Waldrop.

Coming in at number 8 on the list was LHP Tony Cingrani who was drafted by the Reds in the 3rd round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft. This 22-year-old played his first season with Billings Mustangs. Getting a 3-2 record and a 1.75 ERA in 51.1 innings. (13 games started) He got 80 strike outs and only allowed 6 walks and 1 home run. He also got a 14.0 SO/9 which was “the highest rate for pitchers with at least 50 innings in the Pioneer League since Sid Fernandez in 1981.” [Source]
“He has two very good pitches with a fastball that works 92-95 MPH and touches 98 as a lefty and a strong slider in the low to mid 80’s.” [Source] I can’t wait to see what this kid does in 2012.
