Gio Gonzalez, Mat Latos and Jair Jurrjens are still the main targets for Cincinnati Reds even with the asking price being way to high. Walt Jocketty is still trying to get a top of the rotation starter for the team this offseason. A closing pitcher is also at the top of the list this offseason for Walt and it is rumored that they will go to the free agent market for a good closer once they get their starter. At the beginning of the offseason Jocketty also stated that the team was in need of a right-handed power hitting left fielder and a back up SS / INF. He said that those two would be picked up in free agency also. It is funny to hear that they are looking through free agents right now considering he said at the start of the offseason that they would not get any free agents.
There are still a lot of arm-chair GMs out there that want Cincinnati Reds to trade for Gio Gonzalez. They feel that the Oakland A’s asking price is fair. I think they are all crazy so I thought I would predict the future right now. If Gio is traded to the Reds for Yonder Alonso and 3 to 4 other great prospects I predict his stats will look like;
10 W, 9 L, 33 GS, 3.88 ERA, 192.2 IP, 1.40 WHIP, 25 HR, 96 BB, 174 SO,
Oakland fans are drooling over the fact that they could get all of the Reds prospects for Gio and really hope that this deal gets done. I really don’t think Walt Jocketty will agree to this deal because to be real honest it is way too much to give up and what ever team does get Gio Gonzalez will over pay and their future will suffer because of it. There is a reason why the A’s want to trade him so badly. I predict Gio will give up 110+ walks in 2012 if he stays in Oakland.
