#Reds trade Jay Bruce to Padres? Bruce career at PetCo Park?

Reds added players to their 40 man roster today and now the trade rumor gates have opened again. And I am loving it! Even if it is off the wall like Jay Bruce to the Padres. At least it is something! I for one do not want to see the Reds selling but if they can bring in players that can help this season and be controlled at a cheaper cost so then the Reds can re-sign someone like Johnny Cueto, I am all for it. Don’t get me wrong, Jay Bruce is a great player but if it was down to Cueto or Bruce I would pick Cueto hands down.

The thing that is odd for me though is that the trade rumor is for the Padres. Why would they want someone like Bruce in PetCo Park? It just sounds strange. Sure Bruce has only played 17 games there so the sample size is bad but its PetCo Park! I can not see Bruce doing to well there or in that division to be honest. But, once again it sure is nice to see the Reds being talked about during the off-season. And when I think about this rumor I seriously can’t see Ken Rosenthal getting the rumor from the Reds front office.

Brandon Phillips for Brett Gardner??

Rumors are flying around on twitter right now that New York Yankees declined a trade offer from Cincinnati Reds which would send 2B Brandon Phillips for OF Brett Gardner. I thought I would add the main tweets to start off then come back to this later and voice my thoughts on it. I am predicting Walt Jocketty will wake up tomorrow and be swarmed by reporters where he will say he never talked to the Yankees about such a deal.

Ryan Hanigan traded

Cincinnati Reds catcher Ryan Hanigan was traded to Tampa Bay Rays in a three team trade today. Reds get LHP prospect David Holmberg from Arizona Diamondbacks. Source I personally hate to see Ryan Hanigan go because he did a great job with the pitchers. In my mind it looks like Walt Jocketty is focusing more on offense the defense now and this could mean Brandon Phillips is next.

Ryan Ludwick .600 SLG at GABP

Ryan Ludwick has signed a one year deal with Cincinnati Reds. [Source – MLB Trade Rumors] Ken Rosenthal commented on twitter about the deal. “Source: Ryan Ludwick to #Reds. #MLB” and “Source: Ludwick deal with #Reds is one year with a mutual option for 2013. #MLB” and and Jon Heyman said, “ludwick gets $2.5M, with chance to make $3M. #reds.” Mark Sheldon just posted on Mark My Word about the signing with Reds land Ludwick.

Ryan Ludwick has done very well in Great American Ball Park. I showed stats to prove this before in, “Options at LF all depend on Cordero signing.” With a .633 SLG it shows he will fit very well in the number 4 spot in the batting order, after Joey Votto and before Jay Bruce.

Walt Jocketty said most of the work that had to be done would be done quickly this week and he was not kidding. Look for the Reds to find their SS/INF soon too and it just might be another Ryan.

Update: I put down the wrong SLG numbers for Ludwick in GABP. He has hit .600 there not .633 SLG, those are his numbers for Wrigley Field.

‘We feel that if we did nothing,’

Cincinnati Reds General Manager Walt Jocketty told Ken Rosenthal, “We feel that if we did nothing, we’d still have a club capable of contending and competing in our division all year. We felt that way last year. We just had some things that didn’t go well for us.”
