Cincinnati Reds are looking for RHP Mat Latos to come up big in the game vs. Pittsburgh Pirates tonight. Reds have been suffering from even more injuries lately and really need a push of good luck before the All-Star break.

Reds roll out the welcome Mat for Latos
In a season plagued by injuries, the Reds have gotten used to welcoming stars back off the DL. Saturday’s game against the Brewers will include another important return for Cincinnati — right-hander Mat Latos, who will be opposed by Yovani Gallardo. Source
Reds vs Brewers
Mat Latos 55 | P
0 – 0 ERA -.–
2 – 4 ERA 3.64 (Career vs MIL)
Latos will be making his season debut after being on the disabled list rehabbing from elbow and knee surgeries. He had four pain-free rehab starts in Louisville and was stretched out to 100 pitches. He will replace Tony Cingrani in the rotation.
Yovani Gallardo 49 | P
4 – 4 ERA 3.71
7 – 7 ERA 4.44 (Career vs CIN)
Gallardo dominated the Pirates his last time out — four hits and one walk over seven shutout innings. In seven home starts this season, the right-handed ace owns a 4.01 ERA and 1.24 WHIP while fanning more than twice as many batters as he’s walked.
Mat Latos will pitch tonight against trade counterpart Edinson Volquez when Cincinnati Reds will play game two against San Diego Padres. Many remember the trade in which Mat Latos came over to the Reds for Edinson Volquez, Yonder Alonso, Yasmani Grandal and Brad Boxberger. At the time many fans wondered if the Reds over paid for the young pitcher, but now those same people are very happy the deal was done. Mat Latos has become a solid number 1 / 2 pitcher in the Reds rotation.
In his career Mat Latos has 12 wins and 13 losses in 32 starts at PetCo Park. I am hoping he gets win number 13 tonight. If the Reds can get another solid 0 to 1 run 7 innings out of their rotation today it would really help the team get a much-needed win against the Padres. In 54 starts (342 Innings) for the Reds he has 24 wins and 7 losses with a 3.45 ERA with Cincinnati. He has 51 wins with 36 losses in his career. (126 GS, 771 IP)
I see a lack of confidence in some of the players right now that needs to be crushed fast by putting some runs up on the score board. Mat Latos is a beast on the mound but he is human just like the rest of us, if he is losing he gets frustrated and sometimes over throws his pitches. He needs to stay relaxed out there and the best way to do that is to give him a 4 to 6 run cushion.
For those that want to know, Edinson Volquez has 1 win 0 losses in 2 starts against his former team, Cincinnati Reds. 12 innings with 6 walks and 15 strike outs giving up 6 earned runs, 2 of them home runs. I am hoping the wild man plays tonight and the Reds pick up tons of walks against him. A 5 walk first inning would be nice for the Reds.
This is a great day to be a Cincinnati Reds fan! They have clinched first place in National League Central division and are now just adding to an already great winning season. As I watched the game I just have to say, I am very happy to see it go down like this today. Great American Ball Park with 40,000+ kept the energy very high throughout the whole game. The two home runs just added to that energy and it was a wonderful game to watch. Mat Latos pitched a gem and hopefully all of those “haters” out there are now starting to see what a lot of us saw right from the start of the season with him, lots of potential to be the number 1 / 2 pitcher for many years to come.
I am sorry I have not posted much lately. Due to my health I am not always allowed to get around like I would hope but I have been watching the games and I am still a very huge fan just like I was when I was young. Winning today reminded me of the first season I started to cheer for the Reds. It is a great feeling to watch such a young and powerful team clicking so well through out the season.
Now bring on the playoffs and the World Series!
