My #Reds Front Office expectations for MLB Winter Meetings

I know I am really stretching my hopes on this one but I thought I would add what I expect the Reds to do this MLB Winter Meetings. Three items, three simple items and I am not even going to dream on these.

1. A cheap / contract controlled outfield bat. Which will cost the most for the Reds, especially if they have to trade RHP Mike Leake. (Yes, I like Leake for the future of the Reds more than Cueto and Latos due to the fact that he can stay off the DL)

2. Cheap / contract controlled bullpen arms. This might be done with the Leake / outfield bat trade.

3. Cheap / contract controlled starting pitchers that will help next season. Let’s face it, Johnny Cueto and Mat Latos will not be with the Reds next season and if they have to trade Mike Leake to get a LF bat, they could really be in trouble next season. Another thing to think about is, there is no way Jocketty and the Reds will sign a big pitcher in next off-season to play in Great American Ball Park, so once again he will have to trade to get them. There are some very nice young pitchers on the Reds farm system right now that should be ready soon so that helps a lot, unless they have to trade them with Leake to get the LF bat.

All of these things should already be at the top of the list for Reds Front Office when they head into the Winter Meetings. I have seen a lot of fans saying they need a SS but in my mind let’s just deal with the real bad issues first. LF bat / bullpen arms / and starting pitchers for the next season.

Now let’s look at what really will happen for the Reds this Winter Meetings! Nothing, nothing at all. Walt and his team will come home empty handed and nothing will be done. Because as we all know, Walt does not make deals under pressure, “I won’t make a deal just to make a deal” And good old Walt does not like to be rushed. So Walt, take your time. There is no rush at all, the Reds will just be hosting the All-Star game this season. Take your time.

OOTP 14 2r2d trade contest

Since starting this blog about my favorite baseball team, the Cincinnati Reds, I have had the pleasure of meeting many other great fans not only of the Reds but of every MLB team out there. I have also been able to chat with a lot of people behind the scenes of baseball.

Yesterday I got a message through twitter from the creators of Out of the Park Developments. (OOTP 14) I will be 100% honest with you, I felt pretty proud. (That is why I am writing this today, I had to let it sink in that it was real.)

I have played OOTP 14 and I have to say it is a lot of fun to play. You can play single player and online against other great MLB fans. And once again I will be 100% honest with you, Cincinnati Reds general Manager Walt Jocketty has nothing to worry about, I will never be able to steal his job from him. I have made many bad trades and the best part of all with OOTP 14, I can start over again if I don’t like the trade. (Except in online play, some trades you never forget.)

There are many options to the game which is one of my favorite parts. You can play the current season with the 2013 roster or you can go back in time and play a classic game and change history. Babe Ruth with the Cincinnati Reds? Why not? The sky is the limit with this great game. You can also create your own fictional baseball league with tons of options.

Online play is something I have just started this season and I have to say, it is a lot of fun. You get to play against other great fans of the game and learn a lot from each and every one of them. Like I said before, you learn very quickly who you should trade and who you shouldn’t. (I traded Buster Posey for scraps and almost got run out-of-town.) With most games there are secrets to learn and OOTP 14 online is the same. You find out very quickly who to deal with and who not to. I have had the pleasure of being in some great leagues with a lot of very helpful players. My word of advice to those wanting to try online play, don’t let them push you around, stand your ground and most of all, have fun playing the game. There are many great online leagues out there right now with tons of great players from all around the World. Here is an example of an online league; Championship League Baseball

The creators of Out of the Park Developments (OOTP 14) have given me a OOTP 14 serial number to give away and I thought long and hard about what I would do in order to make this fun and thought what better way then to ask my readers to play a game with me;

Since the trade deadline is upon us and many Reds fans are very upset with the fact that Walt Jocketty has not made any moves to make the team better. What one trade would you make if you were Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty? You are allowed one trade, who would it be and why? I will make it fun and make the deadline July 31, 2013. Get your trades in before July 31 and get a chance to win a OOTP 14 serial number to play this great game.

Walt Jocketty

RULES: Have fun with your trade, the more detail the better. Post your one trade and info in the comments of this blog post. Please include your twitter name in your post so then I can get in contact with you if you win. [ Follow me at 2r2dblog ]
Out of the Park Developments (OOTP 14) are just supplying the serial number as a prize, they are not deciding the winner, I am. So you can not complain to the company if you do not win. — I just love adding stupid stuff like this… Hint, I am just having fun with this so the best way to win is to just have fun and be creative with your trade.

I will post on the blog after July 31 who won and it will be posted on twitter also, so keep checking the blog and twitter to find out who wins.

I would like to thank OOTP 14 for this great offer and I hope to talk more with them in the future.

Go Reds!!!

Matt Latos on MLB Network Radio

I came across another interview with Mat Latos and I have to say he is handling the press very well with this maturity thing. I really don’t think that will be an issue in 2012 and I seriously think he will walk away with 20 wins for Cincinnati Reds along with getting a no-hitter! “Mat Latos, New Reds Starting P, joined MLB Network Radio and discussed the trade to Cincy and the questions surrounding his maturity.

Top MLBlogs of 2011

Since starting 2r2d I have come across many great MLBlogs and I just wanted to congratulate every blog that made the top list for 2011. There are many great blogs on there so please take some time and go check them out at MLB.com Blogs Central. Some blogs that should get a huge pat on the back are Better Off Red by Jamie Ramsey who finished 2nd in MLB PRO. Reds Country which finished 55th with FANS and Mark My Word by Mark Sheldon which finished 8th under MLB.COM BEAT WRITERS.

Holy sidebar Batman!

I have been busy fixing the sidebar for the blog today while waiting for more news about the Sean Marshall and Travis Wood trade. I decided to move the Cincinnati Reds feeds to the top since this is a blog about that team and I have added a few others. The whole reason behind so much on the sidebar is more for me then for other readers. I like to be informed of everything that is happening in Major League Baseball and this is a very easy and fun way for me to do it.

Many will complain that the blog loads way to slow because of the busy sidebar but like I said before, most of it is to help me stay informed. I hope that this reason does not drive readers away but instead keeps them coming back knowing that they can find all they need on one blog. I for one check the blog a lot and get all of my inspiration for posts from what is seen on the sidebar. I hope others see it the same way I do and keep coming back. I will be taking some feeds off when I see that some blogs are not active for a while and probably add more as I surf the internet and find more.

If you have a MLBlog and would like your blogs feed posted on the sidebar please let me know in the comments. I will gladly add and follow any baseball blog made. I am a Cincinnati Reds fan but I love to read about other MLB teams and what their fans think, so all baseball blogs are welcome.
