Pete Rose manages the Bridgeport Bluefish

TWJ contributor sent in this Pete Rose “fun card” last night, and I just had to get it posted today. Rose managed the Bridgeport Bluefish for one game yesterday, leading them to a 2-0 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers. Over 4500 fans were in attendance.

The Bluefish are taking full advantage of the historic event, selling memorabilia to commemorate Rose’s return to the baseball field (even though it was only for one day). Fans can purchase a number of items, from a $20 t-shirt to a $275 autographed double-knit jersey. See what is still available here.

Estrada allows three homers in loss to Reds
Marco Estrada improved his control, but his problem with giving up home runs continued, and it cost the Brewers in Sunday’s rubber match against Cincinnati. Estrada gave up three home runs — one solo shot and a pair of two-run home runs — and it was enough to down the Brewers in a 13-4 loss to the Reds at Miller Park. Source

Reds roll out the welcome Mat for Latos
In a season plagued by injuries, the Reds have gotten used to welcoming stars back off the DL. Saturday’s game against the Brewers will include another important return for Cincinnati — right-hander Mat Latos, who will be opposed by Yovani Gallardo. Source

Mat Latos 55 | P
0 – 0 ERA -.–
2 – 4 ERA 3.64 (Career vs MIL)
Latos will be making his season debut after being on the disabled list rehabbing from elbow and knee surgeries. He had four pain-free rehab starts in Louisville and was stretched out to 100 pitches. He will replace Tony Cingrani in the rotation.

Yovani Gallardo 49 | P
4 – 4 ERA 3.71
7 – 7 ERA 4.44 (Career vs CIN)
Gallardo dominated the Pirates his last time out — four hits and one walk over seven shutout innings. In seven home starts this season, the right-handed ace owns a 4.01 ERA and 1.24 WHIP while fanning more than twice as many batters as he’s walked.
